Zine Convention
I attended Colin Tedford's and Marek Bennett's talk at the Zine Convention yesterday, which was a great talk on how to publish and promote comics, specifically those developed by student groups, organizations, and after school programs. Colin had some great examples of comics with a political message, such as "Great Moments in Nuclear History," that can prove to be valuable for specific types of interest groups. And as Marek pointed out, the comics medium has great potential for communicating all kinds of messages, be it scientific, political, humorous, literary, or educational. And getting young people to create them and have the experience of publishing them is a great idea - something that I've done in my classrooms and hope to do in other settings as well. Meanwhile, new developments have occurred in the world of Birds - for some details on Dr. Birdley's origins, go to http://www.birdley.blogspot.com/.
